On Monday, February 24, 2020, Baltimore City Council President Brandon M. Scott introduced a Resolution calling for an investigative hearing on the well-being of the transgender community in Baltimore. The following text is from a February 27th email from Scott C. Davis, Neighborhood, LGBTQ and Hispanic Community Liaison, Office of City Council President:
At this past Monday’s Council Meeting, Council President Scott called for an investigative hearing on the well-being of the transgender community in Baltimore. “I want to thank the City Council for unanimously co-sponsoring that resolution. I often talk about the two Baltimores: the well-known Baltimore and the Forgotten Baltimore. I recognize that for too long, the transgender community has been a part of the Forgotten Baltimore, being ignored and overlooked by their government. As part of my commitment to equity, the City Council will call in our City agencies, community members, and advocates to shed light on the health and service disparities experienced by our transgender community. We have to focus on what we can do to ensure that the trans community is given the support needed to not just survive, but thrive. A hearing will be scheduled in the coming weeks in the Health Committee, chaired by Councilmember Kristerfer Burnett. Click here to read the text of the resolution. Thank you to all of the advocates and leaders who have pushed for this and assisted with the resolution. I will let everyone know when the hearing is scheduled. Comments are closed.
